SAN FRANCISCO (October 9, 2013)--A spokesman for the family of a San Francisco woman whose body was found in the stairwell of a hospital where she was a patient says city officials have a lot of explaining to do.
David Perry, a friend of the woman, Lynn Spalding, 57, said Wednesday that Spalding's relatives deserve to know how thoroughly sheriff's deputies and police searched San Francisco General Hospital for her.
Spalding was admitted to the hospital for an infection Sept. 19, and was reported missing from her room two days later.
An engineer who was conducting a quarterly inspection of the locked and alarmed stairwell found Spalding's body there Tuesday.
Perry says the image of her dying alone on the grounds of a medical institution is a nightmare.
