EDINBURG (January 3, 2014) Hidalgo County officials say six people have died of swine flu in the county since Thanksgiving.
The victims included five adults and a 7-year-old child, Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Chief Administrative Officer Eduardo Olivarez said.
All six had previous health conditions such as diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said Texas is one of a handful of states with "high" activity of influenza-like illnesses.
This season’s flu vaccines are designed to protect against H1N1.
Child flu deaths must be reported to Texas health officials, but adult flu deaths are not tracked statewide.
