WACO (April 4, 2013)-A Waco man was indicted Wednesday on a two-count charge of aggravated assault in connection with a February incident during which a woman was beaten and an infant was injured.

Bawi Hlei Kham, 22, remained in the McLennan County Jail Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $500,000.

Kham was arrested after Waco officers were flagged down at around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 23 in the 900 block of Speight Avenue by a woman who told them she had been beaten.

Officers learned the woman had been severely beaten about the head and neck, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said at the time.

Swanton said the woman twice dropped the 2-month-old infant she woman was holding during the attack.

The beating grew out of an argument the 37-year-old woman had with her boyfriend, Swanton said.

The woman and the infant were taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

Their names were not released.
