KILLEEN (April 16, 2014) Killeen police arrested a 29-year-old man named in drug and firearms warrants and the 26-year-old woman who was with him after a nearly five-hour standoff in a local neighborhood that shut down streets and led to some evacuations.
Police identified the man Wednesday as Shawn Michael Walker.
He was being transferred to the Bell County Jail Wednesday, police said.
The woman, Gessica Lynn Brown, 26, was charged with hindering apprehension.
Her bond was set at $5000
The standoff started after officers went to a home at 1908 Sunset St. just before 1 p.m. Tuesday to serve the arrest warrants.
The woman told police the man wasn’t home, but officers noticed someone moving around inside, spokesman Tina Amerson said.
Officers tried for more than an hour to talk to the man, but he refused to respond, Amerson said.
The Killeen Police Tactical Response Unit was dispatched to the home at around 2:30 and attempted to negotiate with the man for more than two hours.
Tear gas was eventually used to force the man out, Amerson said.
Walker was arrested without incident at around 5:45 p.m.
Walker was named in warrants charging possession of a controlled substance and probation violation for possession of a firearm by a felon.
Streets were blocked off in the area of Cora Avenue and Sunset Street in Killeen because of the standoff and residents were evacuated from their homes along two streets on either side of the standoff scene.
School buses were diverted from the area.
No one was injured.
