WACO (June 14, 2012)—A Waco man remained in the county jail Thursday after his arrest earlier in the week in connection with an aggravated robbery at a local Valero store.

Douglas Wayne James Jr., 22, was ordered held on bonds totaling $35,000, charged with aggravated robbery and assault causing bodily injury family violence, according to McLennan County Jail records.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said James was arrested after a Valero store clerk was able to identify him as a suspect in the Feb. 13 robbery of the store at 4025 Bosque Boulevard.

Patrol officers were sent to that location at about 11:30 p.m. after the clerk reported a man had walked into the store, claimed he had a gun in his pocket and demanded cash.

The robber, who was known to the clerk, never actually showed a weapon, but made away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, Swanton said.

Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant based upon the clerk’s description of the robber and that led U.S. Marshals to arrest James on Tuesday.

Swanton said the second charge stems from an incident in August 2010 incident during which a woman, who is the mother of James’ child, was struck in the face during a domestic disturbance.
