WACO (August 16, 2012)—U.S. Marshals and Waco police tracked down a wanted suspect Thursday afternoon in a south Waco neighborhood.

Marshals noticed Robert Mondragon, 30, driving on Monte Vista Street Thursday afternoon and attempted to stop him.

When Mondragon stopped in front of a house at 1618 Monte Vista, he jumped from his car and led marshals on a short foot chase through back yards and over fences.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said the chase finally reached a fence that was too high for the suspect to climb over and marshals caught up with him.

Swanton said Mondragon fought with marshals, who finally used a stun gun to try to bring him under control but the suspect continued to resist.

One of the marshals struck Mondragon in the back of the head when the suspect reached into his pants pocket.

Mondragon, Swanton said, continued to resist and was stunned again and finally brought under control.

EMS was called to the scene and treated Mondragon there.

He then was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he was being booked Thursday afternoon.

Swanton said Mondragon was wanted on a Waco police robbery warrant, a bond forfeiture, a previous evading charge and likely he would face a new charge of evading arrest and resisting arrest.
