WACO (February 26, 2013)—An early Tuesday morning fire significantly damaged a garage behind a north Waco home but no one was injured.
Waco fire Assistant Chief D.C. Yeager said units were called at 5 a.m. to 3524 Homan Avenue where the first units on the scene reported smoke coming from a detached garage behind the house.
Yeager said a motorist called in the alarm and tried to awaken residents in the home but no one would come to the door.
The single story wood-frame garage contained furniture and other items that Yeager said appeared to be in storage.
The fire burned through the ceiling and into the attic of the structure but after about 20 minutes firefighters had the blaze contained and prevented it from spreading to the house or any other building.
Yeager said a fire marshal was at the scene by 6 a.m. trying to determine a cause of the blaze.
Yeager said he thought no one was home at the time of the fire.
