BELLMEAD (March 8, 2013)--Five people were sent to a local hospital Friday morning after an unmarked Bellmead police car and another vehicle collided at Loop 340 and Interstate 35.

Department of Public Safety trooper D.L. Wilson said at around 7:15 a.m. Friday the police car and a fire truck were headed to a traffic accident on the southbound access road of the interstate, both using lights and sirens.

As the police car passed through the intersection it collided with a 1994 Lincoln Town Car driven by Heather Norton, 24, of Waco.

Wilson said Norton, Cameron Norton, 13, Benjamin Griffin, 11 and Payton Griffin, 8, along with Officer James William Eslick, 59, were taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

He described their injuries as non-incapacitating.

The officer was treated and later released.

Information about the conditions of the other four victims wasn’t immediately available.

Wilson said the fire truck continued on to the other accident, but after firefighters determined there were no injuries there, they returned to Loop 340 and Interstate 35 to assist at the accident scene.

Wilson said the accident is under investigation.
