KILLEEN (November 14, 2012)—Killeen police Wednesday identified a woman who was killed when the car in which she was riding was struck by a train at a local crossing as Coral Ghamdi, 26, of Killeen.

She and Fort Hood Jeremy Wayne Berczik, 26, of Houston died when a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Freight Train hit the 2010 Dodge Charger that Berczik was driving just after 2 a.m. Friday at the North Gilmer Street crossing near West Avenue E in Killeen.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they think Berczik maneuvered around the crossing guards, which were down, and drove into the path of the oncoming train.

Berczik, who had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Battalion, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment since September, deployed to Iraq from October 2008 to January 2009 and from August 2010 to August 2011.
