CORSICANA (May 9, 2013)--A 2-year-old Corsicana boy is dead after police say he shot himself in the head Wednesday night.
Corsicana police Chief Randy Bratton said in a news release the boy’s father called police at about 9 p.m. and reported the child had shot himself.
When officers arrived at the home on North 30th Street they found Kinzler Allen Davis, who was immediately taken by ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital, in Corsicana and then flown to Children’s Hospital, in Dallas where he later died.
Investigators determined the toddler, Kinsler Davis, found the handgun in a bedroom and fired it.
The shot struck him in the head.
The boy's 35-year-old father was in a walk-in closet in the bedroom at the time and no one else was home, police said.
Police advised both Child Protective Services and the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office of the shooting.
The findings of the investigation will be referred to the district attorney’s office, which will determine whether any charges will be filed, police said.
