BELTON (April 15, 2013)--David Evans, the director of the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, was being held Monday in the Bell County Jail charged in connection with a burglary and shooting at a Belton home.
Evans, 48, was ordered held Monday on a $10,000 bond charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony, according to Bell County Jail records.
Belton police say the charges all stem from a Sunday incident during which a woman was shot in the shoulder.
Evans, according to Belton Police, identified himself as an undercover narcotics officer with the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.
But when Belton police called McLennan County to verify that, they were told he is not associated with the department, McLennan County Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said.
Evans apparently had been a reserve deputy with the McLennan County department at a previous time.
No one at the Oakwood Cemetery would comment on Monday.
