BELTON (April 16, 2013)—Trial was set to continue Tuesday for a Chicago man who is accused of the February 2011 shooting death of a Killeen man outside an apartment complex.

Mario Lamont Lewis, 41, is charged with the shooting death of Lynn Wilford, of Killeen, whom police found at about 6:45 a.m. Feb. 19, 2011, outside a four-plex apartment building in the 200 block of East Garrison Ave.

An affidavit issued at the time for Lewis’ arrest stated Wilford had been shot twice in the head.

Lewis, who weighs 525 pounds, was on the run for more than two months after the shooting but eventually was arrested April 18, 2011 by a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force in Chicago on the warrant issued in Killeen.

Wilford, 32 at the time of his death, was apparently shot while he was lying on the ground outside the apartments, the arrest affidavit said.

Wolford's girl friend told investigators at the time several people had been at a party in her apartment when they heard men arguing inside an apartment next door.

At some point the argument continued outside the building and that's when witnesses said they heard gunshots.

Lewis could face up to life in prison if he is found guilty in the slaying.
