RIESEL (April 17, 2013)--A teenager injured in a crash during a high speed chase that began Tuesday night in Riesel was in police custody Wednesday in Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson said.
Angel Dejesus Nunez, 18, was injured in a crash in Ellis County that ended the chase, which covered 64 miles at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, Wilson said.
The chase started after at attempted traffic stop at around 10 p.m. Tuesday in Riesel.
The driver sped toward Waco on State Highway 6 with officers in pursuit.
Several other law enforcement agencies joined in the chase as the driver pulled onto Interstate 35 in Waco at speeds as high as 125 miles per hour, Wilson said.
At around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday Hill County sheriff's deputies and DPS troopers joined in the pursuit as the fleeing driver entered Hill County, Wilson said.
Fifteen minutes later, the driver took an exit off of I-35 at the 391 mile marker, in Ellis County and lost control of the vehicle, which crashed, Wilson said.
The 2012 Honda Civic rolled eight times before it came to rest, Wilson said.
Nunez was flown to Parkland with what Wilson said were significant injuries.
Wilson said Nunez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
