WACO (June 20, 2013)--Durante Laearl Levi, 18, was in the McLennan County Jail Thursday afternoon, charged with burglary of a habitation with an intent to commit an assault, after an early-morning home invasion during which a Waco woman was injured while struggling with her armed attacker.
Bond had not been set Thursday afternoon, according to online records.
The victim told police that someone knocked on the door of her apartment at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday at 1725 North Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
When she opened the door, she was confronted by a man with a gun who forced his way inside the apartment and threatened to hurt her if she made any noise, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
She struggled with her attacker and managed to break free and escape to a neighboring apartment, alerting the resident as the man fled on foot.
Officers arrested Levi a short distance from the complex and recovered a pistol, Swanton said.
The woman, whose name wasn’t released, suffered minor injuries, Swanton said.
