TEMPLE (June 21, 2013)—The woman who died after she ran directly into the path of a trash truck at around 7 a.m. Friday on S.E. HK Dodgen Loop near 1st Street was identified Friday afternoon as Tierra Nicole Tingle, 19, of Temple.

Temple police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said Tingle was riding in a car that was westbound on S.E. HK Dodgen Loop when the driver stopped and she got out of the vehicle at the South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive intersection and began to walk west on the shoulder of the loop.

The driver of the waste management truck was eastbound on the loop and saw Tingle on the shoulder of the road.

He told officers that Tingle looked at the truck and then stepped directly into the path of the vehicle, Wilcox said.

The driver moved to the left lane to avoid hitting her and she again stepped into the truck’s path, Wilcox said.

“The driver again took evasive action by swerving the vehicle back to the right, and again the female ran back into the path of his vehicle and was struck,” Wilcox said.

Witnesses provided first aid and performed CPR, but efforts to save the woman were unsuccessful, Wilcox said.

Bell County Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield pronounced Tingle dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.
