KILLEEN (August 2, 2013)—A man was being held Friday in the Bell County Jail after police arrested him for burglarizing the same house 10 times.
James Robert Berndt, II, 45, was ordered held on a $50,000 bond charged with burglary of a habitation.
An arrest affidavit in the case says Berndt told police he had burglarized the same house 10 times over a period of weeks.
The owner of the home in the 300 block of North Fort Hood St., told police on June 18 his home had been broken into and a firearm and jewelry had been taken.
Then, the affidavit said, police were sent back to the same address on July 1 and during that investigation the resident told police he thought he knew who the burglar was.
The homeowner told officers a man had been living in the house for about six months and about three months ago the resident told the man to move out.
It was after that the burglaries began, the homeowner said.
Police arrested Berndt on Tuesday and during an interview he told officers he had broken into the house some 10 times by prying window bars off a window.
