Body Found In Search For Missing Central Texas Man

MILAM COUNTY (July 1, 2013)—Search teams in Milam County have found remains believed to be those of Larry Wayne Bennett, 55, who’s been missing since June 9, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Relatives reported Bennett missing on June 22 and his vehicle was later found parked off Milam County Road 264 near Sugar Loaf Mountain in the eastern part of the county where Bennett sometimes went hiking.

Volunteers from the Bryan-based Search Dog Network and members of the Alamo Area and Travis County Search and Rescue Teams joined the search on Saturday and found the remains after about four hours, the sheriff’s office said.

“Although the evidence at the scene indicates that the remains are those of Mr. Bennett, the Travis County Medical Examiner is awaiting dental records before that determination is made officially,” Chief Deputy Chris White said in a press release Monday.

No signs of trauma or indications of foul play were found during the autopsy, White said, but the remains were so badly decomposed that the cause of death could not be immediately determined.
