GATESVILLE (July 12, 2012)—Cody Dion-Michael Peralto, 19, who is charged with murder in the death of a man whose throat was slashed Tuesday morning at a Copperas Cove apartment, was booked into the Coryell County Jail Thursday where he’s held in lieu of $1 million bond.
Judge Trent Farrell, of the 52nd District Court, in Gatesville, appointed a lawyer for Peralto on Thursday.
Peralto was arrested just after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Copperas Cove Police Department, police said.
He is charged in the throat-slashing death of Darien P. Brodeur, 42, also of Copperas Cove.
Officers found Brodeur’s body just before 4 a.m. Tuesday in an apartment at the Five Hills Apartments at 2015 East Highway 190 after responding to a report of a possible death.
He was lying on the floor inside of the apartment with a severe laceration on the front of his neck, police said.
Witnesses told detectives Brodeur’s neck was slashed during a fight with another man early Tuesday morning, after which the attacker fled.
Brodeur was pronounced dead at around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and an autopsy was ordered.
Neighbors say he used a wheelchair.
