CALDWELL (March 19, 2013)--A 1-year-old boy drowned inside a motel bathroom in Caldwell over the weekend, and now Child Protective Services is investigating.

The parents of the child live at the Caldwell Motel and, according to CPS, also have a 2-year-old child who is now in CPS custody.

According to CPS, the boy drowned Saturday in a bathtub in a room at the Caldwell Motel.

"It saddens me that something like this could happen that probably could be prevented. Where were the parents when this happened,” a resident said.

Caldwell police and Child Protective Services are trying to answer that question as they investigate the death.

"In this particular case we are investigating neglectful supervision,” said Julie Moody with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

While investigators look for answers, CPS says the victim's 2-year-old sibling will remain in foster care.

"We felt, after investigators arrived at the scene, that the surviving sibling would be safe in the care of child protective services,” said Moody.
