COLLEGE STATION (November 27, 2012)—A suspected shoplifter who stole two vehicles including an ambulance and was involved in three crashes before police took him into custody remained in jail Tuesday in College Station.

Bryan police say the man took items Monday from a beauty supply store and then stole a delivery car from a nearby business.

As he drove away, the stolen car struck another vehicle.

A witness followed until the man was involved in a second crash.

College Station Fire Department paramedics were sent to the accident scene, where the suspected shoplifter stole their ambulance and drove off.

As he fled, he pulled into the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant where the ambulance struck a concrete pillar.

Police found the ambulance and the suspect at a nearby intersection.

No one was seriously hurt.

Coty Joe Lohse of Bryan was being charged with felony theft in the theft of the ambulance, which is valued at about $250,000.
