Central Texas Teenager Injured In Two-Vehicle Crash Dies

CALDWELL (January 9, 2013)--A 16-year-old Central Texas high school student who was critically injured in an accident has died from his injuries, family friends told KBTX-TV in Bryan.

Christopher Schultz was injured just before 9 p.m. Saturday in a crash on FM 60 east near Lyons in Burleson County.

Department of Public Safety Sgt. David Adkins said Schultz was driving east at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, which veered into the path of a westbound Dodge truck.

Schultz suffered a serious head injury and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he underwent emergency surgery.

He was later airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital where he died.

Adkins said the two people riding in the pickup were not injured.

Of the three people involved in the wreck, Adkins says Schultz was the only one not wearing a seatbelt.

Earlier this week, friends and supporters gathered at the square in Caldwell wearing boots and carrying candles in honor of Shultz.

The group shared stories, sang songs, and prayed for Shultz and his family.

The Department of Public Safety says the family decided to donate his organs.
