Central Texas Toddler In Critical Condition After Near Drowning

BRYAN (August 1, 2013)—Bryan police were investigating Thursday after a toddler almost drowned at a Bryan apartment complex pool Wednesday evening.

The toddler was in critical condition Wednesday night at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin.

Paramedics were sent at around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to The Grove Apartments in Bryan after a caller reported that a 2-year-old who fell into the pool and wasn't breathing.

An adult was with the 2 year-old at the pool, and after turning around to do something found the toddler in the water, police said.

A resident performed CPR.

"It just kicked in. I haven't done it for a long time, but it all just came back to me,” said Lisa Kuykendall.

"I'm just upset and you know emotional to know that that child could have died. I'm just glad I was there.”

Child Protective Services was investigating as part of normal procedure, authorities said.
