COPPERAS COVE (March 8, 2013)—A hometown crowd greeted Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III Friday afternoon in Copperas Cove as Griffin returned for a ceremony dedicating a street named in his honor through the Five Hills development.
City officials asked developers to name the road after Griffin, the Copperas Cove High School standout who went on to become Baylor University’s first Heisman Trophy winner.
C-Cove 90 Partners, the developer of the project, originally planned to name the street Heisman Way before residents and City Council members asked that the roadway be named for Griffin.
The street is now Robert Griffin III Boulevard.
Friday’s ceremony was held near the intersection of Robert Griffin III Boulevard and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
