Early Morning Standoff In Local Neighborhood Ends Peacefully

TEMPLE (November 4, 2012)—A Temple man was jailed Sunday, facing charges after a domestic disturbance that led to a four-hour standoff in a local neighborhood.

The disturbance was reported just before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of South 22nd Street in Temple, where a woman told officers her 50-year-old husband had used force while trying to sexually assault her.

She told officers she fled, leaving the couple’s three children inside the house, after the man told her if she resisted further, he would get a gun.

Officers tried to contact the man without success and when they attempted to open the front door they discovered it was barricaded.

They established a perimeter around the home and tried unsuccessfully to contact the man by phone, cell phone and by using a public address system.

“Due to the fact that negotiators were unable to establish communication, and out of concern for the safety and well being of the children, a decision was made to deploy the Temple SWAT Unit,” police said in a new release.

SWAT team members entered the house at around 7:20 a.m., found the man in a front room, where he was arrested without incident, and then located the three children unharmed in a back bedroom.
