TEMPLE (July 21, 2014) Alcohol appears to have been a factor in a head-on crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 35 in Temple that left the two drivers seriously injured and trapped in their vehicles.
The accident happened at around 12:25 a.m. Sunday when a 2006 Saturn that was southbound in the northbound lanes collided head-on with an oncoming 2007 Ford F150 pickup truck in which a man, his wife and their two children were riding, police said Monday.
When first responders arrived, one vehicle was lying on the driver’s side against a concrete retaining wall and the other was against the highway guardrail.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the drivers.
The driver of the Saturn and all four occupants of the pickup were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
A dog that was riding in the Saturn escaped injury and was turned over to animal control officers.
The names of the victims have not been released.
“The investigation continues and possible criminal charges may be filed in this case,” police said in a press release Monday evening.
