FORT HOOD (November 24, 2011) - Six elaborate Thanksgiving Day feasts were prepared at Fort Hood Thursday. The dining halls competed for the best displays and celebrations. This year's winner was Freeman Cafe on 67th Street and Tank Destroyer Blvd.

Some of the highlights were ice sculptures, a gigantic cornucopia, and a gingerbread house you could walk through. Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell, 3 Corps & Fort Hood Commander, visited all the events and ate Thanksgiving dinner with the soldiers.

This year's Thanksgiving feast was extra special for many troops who were overseas last year.

"Sends the message that we still care about them that we still love them and this is an important part of an Army tradition, families serving families that's what we tell our soldiers your in a family and we're going to take care of you," Commander Campbell said.

Since the announcement of the drawdown of troops overseas thousands of men and women have returned home earlier than expected to make it in time for the holidays.
