BELTON (November 22, 2013) Traffic both north and southbound was moving extremely slowly on Interstate 35 in Belton Friday morning after an 18-wheeler hit a concrete barrier and spilled its load on the highway.
Crews from the Texas Department of Transportation were at the scene at 7 a.m. trying to clear the roadway of debris.
The accident happened at about 5 a.m. when a southbound 18-wheeler crashed into two concrete barriers, pushed the barriers into the main lanes of traffic and spilled its load onto the roadway, a TxDOT news release said.
For a time traffic was being diverted off the main lanes onto the access road but a report just before 7 a.m. indicated at least one of the main lanes on each side had been reopened to traffic.
TxDOT said it could be as late as 9 a.m. before the roadway was fully re-opened.
