WACO (May 18, 2012)—Both northbound lanes of Interstate 35 were closed late Friday afternoon and authorities were diverting traffic onto access roads after a collision involving an 18-wheeler south of Waco.
The northbound backup stretched for about 3-and-a-half miles, the Texas Department of Transportation said, and rubberneckers who were slowing down to look were causing southbound backups, as well.
By early Friday evening, the wreckage had been cleared, but DPS investigators remained at the scene and the lanes remained closed.
Northbound traffic was backed up to Bruceville-Eddy and southbound traffic was backed up almost to Loop 340, TxDOT said.
