TEMPLE (March 4, 2013)—Scott & White’s McLane Children’s Hospital unveiled a new ambulance Monday that will be used to transfer children from other hospitals and clinics.
The 2013 DurStar took nearly seven months to build and is designed and equipped specifically for children.
"We carry a lot of specialized equipment,” said Terry Valentino, director of trauma and transport.
“Devices on this ambulance (are those) that you won't see on a typical ambulance such as liquid oxygen, compressed air, and a refrigerator,” Valentino said.
The ambulance even has a DVD player to help keep children’s minds off what is going on around them and has room for family members to ride along , as well.
The ambulance cost more than $100,000 and was paid for entirely by donations.
It will be put into operation later this month.
