BELLMEAD (November 9, 2012)—Bellmead and Lacy Lakeview police are investigating a local man’s claim that he was kidnapped Friday at knifepoint by a former coworker over an unpaid $20 debt.
Ricky Davis, 47, said he was in a park in Lacy Lakeview when the former coworker confronted him, held a knife to his stomach and ordered him to get into a nearby car, demanding payment of a $20 debt plus another $30 in interest.
Davis said he couldn’t escape from the car because the inside door handle and panel were missing so he told the man to drive to a barbershop at Bellmead Drive and Hogan Lane where he could get the money.
Davis called 911 from inside the barbershop.
Bellmead police and Department of Public Safety troopers arrived at the scene where they found a car similar to the one the victim described parked in front of the barbershop with a man sitting inside.
They called for a K-9 unit and when the dog inspected the car he indicated there could be drugs inside.
Officers recovered some drug paraphernalia from inside the vehicle, arrested Jerry Whitlock, 35, and turned him over to Lacy Lakeview officers.
