One Central Texas pastor has been in the same pulpit for more than six decades.

Pastor Fred Sain

PRAIRIE HILL (February 24, 2013)--If the pews at Prairie Hill Baptist Church could talk, they might tell you a story or two.

The small church is a landmark in Texas, and is one year older than the Statue of Liberty. The church opened up shop in 1885 and has withstood the test of time.

But a different kind of milestone, one many probably don't know about, can be found inside the church every Sunday morning.

That milestone happens to be 83-year-old Pastor Fred Sain. Some preachers spend less than three years at a church before moving onto a different congregation.

Pastor Sain began preaching at Prairie Hill Baptist church 63 years ago and he never left.

He'll celebrate his 64th anniversary with the church in September.

Needless to say, he's seen America when she soared and when she stumbled from the eyes of the pulpit.

"It's just unbelievable how much the world has changed around me," Pastor Sain said.

"Everything moves so fast. It just seems like we don't have time to slow down to really enjoy the meaning of life nowadays."

Pastor Sain has preached thousands of sermons. He performed his 249th communion on Sunday morning.

His audience is a congregation of less than fifty people, yet he confessed that he still gets intimidated when writing for a Sunday morning crowd.

"It can be a totally different feeling. The church used to be viewed by most as a large sense of community and giving," Pastor Sain said.

"Today, everyone comes in a hurry on-time or five minutes late. If I preach too long they're ready to leave," Pastor Sain chuckled.

If you traveled back in time to 1949 to listen to Pastor Sain's first sermon, it would probably sound a little different.

But 63 years later, he says he hasn't changed his game-plan. He still sticks with the one book that has withstood the test of time.

"The bible is an amazing thing. I can read a passage today and it will say something completely different to me if I read it ten years down the road," Pastor Sain said.

"It's timeless, and I think it will endure forever."
