LIMESTONE COUNTY (February 12, 2013)- Mark David McCarty, 55, of Streetman, was found guilty in a holdup of a pharmacy in Mexia in which bottles of the powerful prescription painkiller hydrocodone were taken.
According to Limestone County Assistant District Attorney Beth Toben, McCarty was sentenced to 40 years behind bars today.
McCarty admitted to the robbery and told a detective he blamed it on his drug addiction, prosecutors said.
The robbery happened back in June 2012 at the CVS store at 827 East Milam St. in Mexia.
The robber did not display a weapon, but placed his hand at the small of his back suggesting he was armed, and then told the pharmacist "to do it and no one would get hurt," police said.
The man left the store on foot and headed east.
Police reviewed surveillance video from surrounding businesses and determined that the man got into a small vehicle that may have been yellow in color that was parked at the McDonald's restaurant a block east of the pharmacy.
No one was injured.
“This jury’s verdict and the Court’s sentence send out a strong, clear message that this type of criminal behavior will not be tolerated in Limestone County” County Attorney Roy DeFriend said.
“I commend the Mexia Police Department for a job well, and want to thank the Navarro and Freestone County Sheriff’s Departments for their assistance in apprehending and prosecuting this dangerous individual” .
