GATESVILLE (October 31, 2012)--The driver of a pickup truck had to be cut from the wreckage of his vehicle Tuesday afternoon after the truck crashed into the front porch of a Gatesville home.

Gatesville police Chief Nathan Gohlke identified the driver Wednesday as Gerald Rutherford, 56, of Gatesville, but said he did not know Rutherford's condition.

Gohlke said the truck was westbound at about 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of Main Street when the driver lost control, the truck crossed the eastbound lanes and crashed into the brick front porch of the home.

The driver was trapped in the truck and Gatesville fire Chief Billy Vaden said firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free him.

Rutherford was taken from the scene to Coryell Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The homeowner was at home at the time of the crash, but was in the backyard.

The driver was alone in the truck and no one else was injured, Gohlke said.

Eastbound traffic on Main Street was diverted for a little more than an hour while the rescue was completed and debris was cleared from the roadway.
