AUSTIN (April 2, 2013)--Police were searching Tuesday for a car and a suspect they think could be in Waco after a weekend murder in Austin.

The car is a black Dodge, but the license plate number is not available, Austin police said.

An officer who spoke with News 10 by telephone Tuesday said detectives in Austin believe the suspect either lives or has relatives who live in Waco.

She did not provide a name.

Police say at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday officers were sent to 11th Street and Trinity Street in Austin where they found Bennie Heslip, 23, who had been shot.

He was taken to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

Homicide detectives say Heslip was with friends in the parking lot when they became involved in an argument with several other people that quickly escalated into violence.

After Heslip was shot, the suspects fled toward West 10th street.

Detectives are looking for a man who’s black, about 6-feet tall and who has a thin build and short hair.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Tip Line at (512) 477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at (512)-472-TIPS.

The shooting death was Austin's fifth murder of the year.
