COPPERAS COVE (July 2, 2012)—The man found shot to death Friday in the Cinergy Cinema parking lot near the Copperas Cove Walmart store was identified Monday as Fort Hood Sgt. Chad Lane Williams, 28, of Little Rock, Ark.

Officers found Williams dead after responding at around 1 p.m. Friday to a report of a man on the ground in the parking lot at 402 Constitution Dr.

Copperas Cove police Sgt. Kevin Keller said police were investigating the shooting as self-inflicted.

Williams, who joined the Army in October 2004, was a veteran of three tours of duty in Iraq from January 2005 to January 2006, August 2006 to November 2006 and April 2008 to May 2009.

He had been assigned to Fort Hood’s 2nd Squadron, 3rd Calvary Regiment, Fort Hood, since November 2010.

The area behind Walmart and near the Cynergy Cinema is a high-traffic area with several nearby hotels and restaurants.
