KILLEEN (October 31, 2012)—A purse snatching Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of Gold’s Gym at 902 West Central Texas Expressway in Killeen led to a chase, a crash and a manhunt.

A witness to the purse snatching followed the black Dodge Charger in which the man who took the purse escaped and called police when he caught up with it at FM 2410 and East Stan Schlueter Loop.

An officer who was in the area tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped off.

The Charger struck one car in the area of W S Young Drive and Central Texas Expressway, and then two others as the driver pulled onto Grandon Drive.

The chase ended abruptly after the car struck a light pole and rolled through some shrubbery at the intersection of Grandon and Estelle Circle.

Police detained the 31-year-old woman who was driving, but a man jumped from the car and ran through the neighborhood where several residents reported seeing him.

Officers were searching for the man Wednesday evening.

The purse taken from the woman in the gym parking lot was recovered, police said.
