South Texas Authorities Search For Missing Local National Guardsman

RIO GRANDE CITY (November 22, 2012)--Authorities in Starr County are searching for a Waco man who disappeared more than a month ago after visiting relatives in Alto Bonito.

Edward "E.J." Garcia, Jr., was last seen on Sept. 26 in Alto Bonito after he visited relatives in the small town about 11 miles east of Rio Grande City.

Garcia, 22, is a specialist in the Texas Army National Guard, assigned to the 236th MP Battalion based in San Antonio, but he has not reported to his last two monthly drills.

Relatives locally told News 10 Garcia left the area with about $180 in his pocket and no change of clothing.

Starr County Sheriff's Investigator Osdy Luna said Garcia is 5-feet, 6-inches tall, weighs 145 to 150 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black gym shorts.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to call local law enforcement or the Starr County Sheriff's Office at (956) 487-5571.
