Terry Grant Scott (Jail photo)
KILLEEN (January 8, 2013)—Terry Grant Scott, 17, of Killeen, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging murder in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of a local convenience store that left a Fort Hood soldier dead and two others critically injured.
Officers arrested Scott in the area of Metropolitan and Trimmier, police said.
The victims were shot at around 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday as they sat in a maroon SUV in the parking lot of the Star Mart store at 1704 Old FM 440 Rd. in Killeen.
The gunman fled south on Old FM 440 in the Lincoln Town Car, police said.
Spc. Austin James Sampson, 25, of Bliss, N.Y., was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he died on Friday.
He joined the Army in July 2006 and deployed to Iraq from November 2007 to January 2009 and from August 2010 to August 2011.
He had been assigned to Fort Hood’s Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, since February 2010.
The other two men were taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
The two shooting survivors, Cory Lee Chovan and Mark Olvera, identified Scott from a photo lineup, according to an arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday.
It was the second deadly shooting at a Star Mart store in Killeen in less than two months.
Imran Amir Dukka, 28, of Killeen, was shot to death during a robbery just before midnight on Nov. 7 at the Star Mart in the 3600 block of Zephyr Road in Killeen.
A second man, whose name was not released, was injured in the shooting and was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
He was later transferred to Scott & White Hospital in Temple in stable condition.
Dukka had just arrived to pick up the other man, who also worked at the store, when three armed men dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered ran up to his Toyota Camry, robbed the two victims and then opened fire, shooting each man several times, police said.
The three robbers then took the Camry and sped off.
The car was later found abandoned in the area of Highland and Stetson, police said.
