BELL COUNTY (July 4, 2012)—Some area volunteer firefighters interrupted their Fourth of July celebrations to battle wildfires.
One broke out Wednesday afternoon east of Belton on Falls Road near FM 485 in Bell County.
Firefighters from Rogers, Troy and Moffat responded at around 2:30 Wednesday.
The fire scorched about eight acres of pastureland.
No structures were threatened.
Temperatures Wednesday flirted with the century mark in Central Texas.
Conditions are improved over last summer, when Central Texas was in the grip of a severe drought, but temperatures are rising and vegetation is drying out.
Burn bans are in effect in Bosque, Limestone and Mills County and a ban on outdoor burning goes into effect at sundown on Friday in Bell County.
