MOODY (March 10, 2013)--Firefighters have fully contained the Iron Bridge Park wildfire that has charred about 500 acres since it started a week ago, and firefighters should be finished dousing hot spots on Sunday, Texas A&M Forest Service spokesman Steven Carter said.
The fire started a week ago, on March 3, sparked by a campfire at Iron Bridge Park on Lake Belton.
Area firefighters and Forest Service crews worked around the clock in the effort to stop the spread of the fire, which continued to flare up throughout the week because of the dry conditions and gusty winds.
The wetter and relatively windless weather Friday helped crews in the effort to put out the last hot spots and the heavy rain overnight helped douse any remaining hot spots.
