WACO (March 20, 2013)—A crew went to work Wednesday morning to remove the towering steeple from Waco’s Central Christian Church at 4901 Lake Shore Dr.

The 25-year-old steeple will be sent to Kentucky so accumulated wind damage can be repaired.

The process of removing the landmark steeple was expected to take about three hours.

Repairs will take six to eight weeks.

The steeple was manufactured by Campbellsville Industries, Campbellsville, Ky., where it’s being shipped for repairs.

It rests on a steel foundation above the bell tower and from base to top measures 63-feet-6-inches.

It’s topped by a 10-foot metal cross.

The steeple was erected on Sept. 2, 1988.
