TEMPLE (September 30, 2012)— A 21-year-old man is charged with intoxication manslaughter after a fatal two-vehicle crash in Temple Saturday night.

Temple police Sunday identified the woman who died as Shelly Easter, 35, of Temple.

The accident happened just before 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of West Avenue M and South 51st Street in Temple.

Police say Ramon Rivera from Nixon was driving a blue SUV west on Avenue M at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the center lane, and slammed into the eastbound SUV that Easter was driving.

Easter died at the scene and the Rivera was taken to Scott & White Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He was served with the arrest warrant at the hospital and was taken to the Bell County Jail after his release Monday afternoon.

His bond was set at $1 million.

Avenue M from 49th to 53rd Street was closed until 1:30 a.m. Sunday while the Temple Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the deadly accident.
