MEXIA (January 3, 2013)—Manuel Armando Gonzalez remained in the Limestone County Jail Thursday, charged in the New Year’s Day stabbing death of a woman who relatives say was his girlfriend.
But police aren’t sure if that’s his real name or an alias.
Christina Flores, 40, was stabbed several times early Tuesday during a dispute at 305 East Wilson St. in Mexia.
Officers responded to the home at around 2 a.m. and found her at a nearby residence.
She told them what happened before she was taken by ambulance to Parkview Regional Hospital and then transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
Family members said Thursday they were told she died en route to Dallas.
They said they were told the decision to send her to Parkland rather than closer Level 1 trauma centers at hospitals in Waco or Temple was made after calls were placed to both facilities, one of which was full and one of which did not return a call.
Officers arrested Gonzalez at the home at 305 East Wilson, police said.
Flores was not from Limestone County and didn’t live at the house where she was stabbed, although relatives lived nearby, authorities said Wednesday.
She was acquainted with her attacker, authorities said, but the nature of the relationship isn’t clear.
Family members, however, said Flores was attacked by her boyfriend, whom she had dated for a year.
They said she was stabbed six times.
