Tabitha Morin grew up dreaming of her wedding day. In fact, she had it all planned out well before she met Louis, the man of her dreams.
What Tabitha could have never planned for was the breast cancer diagnosis her mother, Diana, received.
Diana’s health was taking a turn for the worse as Tabitha’s big day approached--and then Diana lost her job and her insurance.
That's when Tabitha decided to scrap her wedding plans so her mom could afford the medication she needed to survive.
Tabitha was ready to let her dream die so her mother could live, but a group of area residents had other plans.
Diana was a co-chair for this year’s Race for the Cure in Waco, and as word spread of Diana’s plight and Tabitha’s sacrifice, other race volunteers decided to take it on themselves to make Tabitha’s dream come true.
It didn’t take much to convince residents from all walks of life to pitch in, and I saw firsthand the goodness of people’s hearts.
People who didn’t even know Tabitha and her mother agreed to invest their time, their talents and their resources to produce a storybook wedding.
Tabitha’s dream not only came true, but the wedding was bigger and better than I think she ever imagined it could be.
Diana is now fighting for her life in a bitter battle against cancer that has spread to the bone. She spends most days sleeping and taking medication to make the pain more bearable.
But on Tabitha's wedding day, Diana was there, as beautiful as ever, and strong enough to walk her baby down the aisle.
After the wedding, Diana embraced Tabitha as the mother and daughter danced to Lee Ann Womack's song, "I Hope You Dance."
It was a moment the volunteers will never forget.
I know I never will.
