Just days after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm the promotion of Fort Hood and III Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno to replace Gen. David Petraeus as chief commander in Iraq, Odierno sat down with Matt Felder to talk about what has been accomplished so far, what remains to be done and the role Fort Hood will play in the continuing war on terrorism. Odierno is a 1976 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy who commanded the 4th Infantry Division from October 2001 until June 2004. In November 2004 he became assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a position he held until taking command of Fort Hood and III Corps in May 2006 and of the Multinational Corps in December 2006.
