At 12:55 a.m., September 1, 2008 the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen reporting that there had been two shots fired from a passing vehicle on FM 1996 in the City of Oglesby, Texas. The caller stated several people had been struck by the shots fired, but that no one was seriously injured.

Coryell EMS was dispatched along with Deputies from the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arriving at the scene Deputies spoke with four individuals that had been struck by the shots. EMS treated all four for minor injuries and no one was transported. Deputies were told that a small car had been driving around Oglesby with music playing very loud. A couple of Oglesby residents had spoke with the occupants of the car and ask them to turn down the music. According to witnesses the male occupant of the car displayed a shotgun and fired two rounds in the direction of the Oglesby residents that had confronted him about the music. The car sped off in the direction of Highway 107.

Surrounding agencies were notified of the suspect cars description. A short time later McGregor Police Department had stopped a vehicle matching the description.

Deputies from the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office responded to McGregor and was able to recover a shotgun believed to have been used in the shooting and also arrested a white male identified as Joseph Bert Raborn, 20 years of age and a resident of McGregor, Texas.

Raborn is currently in jail at Coryell County and has been charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. His bonds have been set at $50,000 each for a total of $2000,000.
