Central Texas Changes

The Fall Festival of Scouting, sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Hewitt for Saturday, September 13 at 5 p.m. has been cancelled due to the weather. The Festival will be rescheduled for October.

Midway ISD: The ACT exam scheduled for Sat. Sept. 13 at 8:00 a.m. at Midway High School has been cancelled. The exam is re-scheduled for Sat. Sept. 20 at 8:00 a.m.

Puppy Plunge Day at Waco Water Park, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to Hurricane Ike. A new date for the event will be announced next week.

Rosebud-Lott ISD superintendent Howell Wright says due to hurricane Ike, classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Friday.
Westphalia ISD classes end at 1 p.m. Friday.
Keep McLennan County Beautiful postpones tire drive this weekend and will reschedule for sometime in November.

Other Changes

Texas A&M University in College Station closed Friday.
Several universities and colleges, including Sam Houston State University, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, all campuses in the Lone Star College system and Brazosport College.
All Prairie View A&M University campuses are closed. There will be no classes or business operations after 2 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The university plans to reopen on Monday.

Continental Airlines is implementing a flight schedule eduction at its Houston hub at Bush Intercontinental Airport for Friday and Saturday. Similar flight reductions are also anticipated
at other select Gulf Coast and Texas destinations. Normal operations are planned at the Newark Liberty and Cleveland hubs.
A reduced flight schedule will take effect Friday. Continental Express and Continental Connection regional airline flights will be uspended early Friday. No Continental, Continental Express or
Continental Connection flight operations are expected at Houston on Saturday. Continental has plans to reactivate the hub Sunday morning, although some flights on Sunday will remain subject to cancellation.
Southwest Airlines suspended flights beginning Friday morning o and from Corpus Christi, Harlingen and Houston.
Amtrak has temporarily suspended service to and from parts of Texas.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has canceled visitation at its Hamilton Unit in Bryan and the Travis County State Jail in Austin.
