FRESNO, Calif. (November 8, 2012)—Lawrence Jones, 42, the ex-convict who shot a handful of his co-workers execution-style at a Fresno chicken-processing plant, killing two, was described by his boss as a model employee who was given an award for his punctuality.
But records show Jones had also been in and out of prison for crimes ranging from armed robbery to car theft.
Authorities say they haven't determined what sparked Tuesday's rampage.
Valley Protein president Bob Coyle says he knew of Jones' criminal record, but he never showed any signs of causing trouble.
Coyle says none of the managers or employees was aware of any animosities between the shooter and others at the Valley Protein plant, where the shootings happened.
Jones shot himself to death.
