LOS ANGELES (November 9, 2012)--Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Friday a man suspected of raping a mentally disabled teenager aboard a Los Angeles transit bus is in custody.
Sgt. Dan Scott says the man has been booked for investigation of rape, but didn't immediately release the suspect's name or age.
Authorities say the man boarded the bus with the 18-year-old victim in suburban Culver City, followed her to the back of the bus and forced himself on her late Wednesday afternoon.
A lone witness tried to alert the bus driver that the rape was happening, but the driver didn’t stop for another 10 minutes, when the suspect stopped and exited the bus.
Scott says the 18-year-old has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old.
He said that after the attack, she reported it to the driver.
