SHERRARD, Ill. (March 27, 2013)—A fire early Wednesday that swept through a western Illinois mobile home killed five people, including four children who were at a sleepover, authorities said.
The fifth victim was a woman, Mercer County Coroner Ron McNall said.
The oldest of the four children who died was 15, he said.
Their names have not been released.
A man managed to escape from the mobile hoome fire with two of his sons, McNall said.
The man tried to re-enter the burning structure, but the flames drove him back, he said.
He was burned and was taken to a hospital.
The cause of the fire hasn't been determined, McNall said.
Sherrard is a village of about 640 people 180 miles west of Chicago.
